Random Monday Memories

During my early teens, one of my favorite things to do was to read. I loved mysteries ~ Nancy Drew, Donna Parker, The Hardy Boys ~ but my favorites were Trixie Belden!

I have the first five from the series of 39 books ~ and they are very well read! I liked these because she was about my age, doing things I could ~ without too huge of a stretch ~ imagine myself doing.

I loved to lay on my bed and read. I would lay with my feet toward the headboard and my head hanging over the bottom of the bed with my book of choice on the floor. I liked a glass with a straw nearby.

Now if my mother is reading this, she's thinking about something else I did while I was reading...dare I share? Well, if you can't chuckle at yourself.....
I used to chew on the footboard while I was reading. Not sure why ~ but there were tooth marks to prove it!

So what kind of books did you enjoy during your youth?
And did you have a wood preference? Mine was walnut!

Quite the mystery!!!

I loved Trixie Belden! Those and the Mandie books were my favorites. Unfortunately, I can't tell you my favorite type of wood. I usually just chewed on my fingernails back then :)

Hi Marie, I don't remember the Trixie Belden books...guess I missed out on something good...never tried chewing wood either,is it yummy? (smile).......I do remember Nancy Drew, and the Hardy boys. They were my Mom's favorite as a young girl.I don't remember reading a lot as a child. There were two many of us and we shared a room so it was never very quite enough to enjoy reading. I do remember hiding in the closet and pretending it was my very own bedroom...Raggedy Ann and I spent a lot of time in there....
Have a blessed week......Shelley

I was not familiar with Trixie Belden either but did read Nancy Drew. I got a chuckle from the wood nibbling. Two of my toddlers enjoyed the pine knobs on their cribs. Must have felt good on those new teeth :)

I liked Nancy Drew and a series by Rosamun DuJardin. I don't think our library had the Trixi books that I remember....Books were my escape. Walking to the library after school on a street that looked very much like the ones described in the Drew books was one of my greatest pleasures. I'd walk through fallen leaves on the sidewalks, take in the pungent autumn scents and couldn't wait to get inside the library....hoping all the while that the books I wanted weren't already all checked out!

Of course, I spelled her name incorrectly before....

I read some of Trixie but my favorites were Nancy Drew (I think I read almost all of them) and Cherry Ames-student nurse. I was always imagining myself as someone else. I couldn't wait for my daughter was old enough for Nancy and I bought her the first 3 books of the series for her birthday. She hated them...I was crushed! She was into Judy Blume. Kids! They don't know good literature.

I loved (and still do!) Nancy Drew. As an adult, I have collected almost all of the set that I read as a kid! I have loved mysteries ever since - Sherlock Holmes is my absolute favorite! Thanks for stopping by my blog Marie. I enjoyed reading yours....

Is this where Elijah gets his love of chewing on wood from? ;-)

Cool memory. My favorite books when I was little were the Ramona series and then when I was a pre teen Little House on the Prairie.

I grew up reading Trixie Belden and LOVED the books and occasionally I just HAVE to read one of them again. :) I also loved Kay Tracy, Nancy Drew, Ginny Gordon, Donna Parker, Annette, the ones with the airline stewardess Vicky ? last name escapes me, and of course, Sue Barton the nurse series. I have replaced some of the books that I foolishly got rid or when I got married; I'm treasuring them and saving them for my granddaughter who is 10 now and I'm hoping she will read and enjoy them too. My love for Trixie Belden left me wishing that my family had a travel trailer after reading The Red Trailer Mystery and after many years my hubby and I bought a trailer(s) and I got my wish. Thank you for sharing your memories.

My favorites were the Mandy books. I started with the series when it first began, and kept with it all through high school (33 books or so). I wonder if the author has written more since then. Hmmm....could be worth investigating!

Chew wood...no. I was pretty brutal on my nails though.
