Random Monday Memories

I grew up in Detroit, Michigan and I was lucky enough to be able to go on a few Bob-Lo Cruises in my life! Below is a look at one of two Bob-Lo cruise ships. These ships took us on about an hour long cruise to Bob-Lo Island ~ in my youth the island was an amusement park!

I remember going once with my Mom, siblings and family friends. Can you just imagine a mother and her small children on this ship!? The railings are not that high.
My poor Mom ~ always out-numbered four to one!
I also went once when I was about 18 years old. The only thing I remember about that trip is that I got to ride an elephant ~ super fun!! Oh ~I do remember something else ~ I wore a hot pink and orange Hawaiian shirt and I had some kind of brassy hair color going on! If I could find the picture I'd post it ~ but I'm kinda glad I can't!

There's a lot more stuff to know about Bob-Lo.
The island is currently being developed as Bob-Lo Island and Marina Resort Community by Amico Properties Limited. Bob-Lo Island now has a community of homes and condominiums. The island is served by a private ferry.
The ships are still around too ~ the Ste. Claire is actually being restored and the work is beautiful. If you're interested you can follow the restoration process here.

An embarrassing side note.....
I think it was during my twenties...and I think it was a conversation with my sister Emily (random memories don't fail me now!). She was talking about where she was going...on a date, out with friends, whatever....it's not important to the embarrassing side note. When she mentioned the name pertaining to her entertainment destination, right away, I said, "I love the Bob-Lo cruise ~ I haven't done that in a long time!" She said, "I'm not going on a Bob-Lo cruise, I'm going to see........"

"Pablo Cruise"

She was talking about a concert! My teen-age sister......I felt SO old!
Emily if it wasn't you maybe it was Steve....either way it took some time to live it down.
(pardon the upcoming inside the family humor) It's kind of like the bird-seed story!

Love those photos from the deck of the boat! Yes, I would've been on pins and needles with my three boys and those low railings!

Isn't it amazing when you can remember some distant memory of the past but not what you had for dinner last night? I loved your Pablo Cruise story-that happens to me a lot too. Sometimes we sit and laugh about old song lyrics that we got wrong because we couldn't understand what the singers were singing. Yhanks for another funny Monday Memory!
