Green

“Wherever you go,
no matter what the weather,
always bring your own
SUNSHINE.”
― Anthony J. D'Angelo

Spent a little time looking through photo files on my laptop.
I really don't mind Winter...but sometimes you just need to see a little bit of GREEN!

Stone Paint

Recently, I bought this can of paint. I have several old, worn out, resin pieces of yard art...I was hoping that this would give them a new lease on life.  I've already tried it on a couple pieces.  Sadly, I never took photos of their old, sorry selfs. But trust me...this little bird looked really sad!  All his colors were faded to almost white.  Now he looks like a little stone sculpture.  I love this paint!!  The color I used is Gray Stone.

Now I need to gather up all the other tired, old stuff in the garden.
It's time for a little bit of rejuvenation!

Where The Grass Won't Grow!

We have a corner in the yard where grass just won't grow...this spot is in the shade
or in the dark more than 23 hours a day.

After many years we've given up on grass and decided plants in the ground, container gardens and yard art are the answers.  Our first "container" turned out to be a large one! Our old wheelbarrow!  The wheel is flat and it's rusted out in a couple spots. Bill drilled a few more holes in it and filled it with some stones and dirt.  I added the plants...a lot of them!

Some annuals, and some perennials.  I know the perennial plants will eventually get too big for the wheelbarrow...but when they do I'll just move them.  For now I want it overflowing!

We'll also be putting in a "path" to the left of the wheelbarrow.  I've found a few ideas on Pinterest...I'll have to see which one I can talk Bill into.

The sunshine in these photos is all touches this little corner. As the Sun sets a few rays peep through the trees and warm up the turquoise squirrel!
Maybe 40 minutes worth of sunshine! That's it!

Now I just need to remember that we planted all this...don't
want to forget to turn the sprinkler on!

Roses in Bloom

Yesterday was my day off....I was so glad to have a chance to take photos of our roses.  We have several varieties and all of them were in full bloom. It was wonderful to have lots of time to look at them!  Roses on the same bush can look so different from one another.  I took so many photos so I wouldn't miss anything...but I'll only share a couple of each.

This rose is call Joseph's Coat.  You never know if the roses on this bush will be yellow, orange, or deep pink....or perhaps a combination of all three colors!

These (above and below) are Knock-Out roses.  The flowers are pretty this year, but the leaves are really having a hard time.  We have three bushes and some little pests have attacked all of them.

I think I'll share more than a couple photos of these pink roses...How about five of them!  They are my very favorite, and the bush is just loaded with buds this year. I'm hoping for quite a show!  I never know what to expect from this rose called New Dawn ~ Awakening.
Click HERE to see how this rose has looked other years.

I don't know the name of these two roses.  We just call them the "orangey" one (above) and the "yellow" one (below).  The "orangey" one opens very fast.  Seem like it's a bud one minute and open wide the next.  The "yellow" one opens slowly....but what a beauty when it's finally done.
I love the second photo of it!

My Clematis is in bloom too ~ I'll share photos of it tomorrow!
What a treat it was to spend some time in the yard with all this color around me!!

I'm linking up to Elizabeth & Co. June Garden Party.
So many ideas....so little time!

A Gardening we will Go...

I spent yesterday in Pennsylvania with friends. We celebrated one friend's birthday by making glass sun-catchers (photos to follow soon), and going out to lunch. We did a little "junking" (photos coming for this too), and went out to dinner...lots of eating happens on these trips!!  Before dinner we stopped at a favorite garden center...Ken's Gardens  in Smoketown, PA.

I just loved the directional yard art!!

The entryway to the store was filled with Memorial Day flowers.  There's just something about red, white and blue that makes my heart happy!!

I didn't take many photos here....I was too busy choosing plants. Here's a peek at the nice assortment that went home with me.  Hope Bill has his shovel ready!  Actually, I'm looking forward to doing a little digging myself this (3 day) weekend.

I'm really looking forward to getting the lettuce in the ground.
There are yummy, fresh salads in our future.
Are you planting any veggies this year?

Sweet Autumn Clematis

Bill cut this all the way down to the ground in April...and here it is, putting on another spectacular show for us!  I need to start spreading this stuff around! Sharing it too...right Katie?

Sweet Autumn Clematis
Need a fast growing vine? Like “Jack in the Beanstalk,” this extraordinarily vigorous, fast growing vine will top 20’ in one season. It is unusually late blooming for a Clematis, bearing clouds of fragrant, 1”, star-shaped, white flowers Summer thru Fall. The sweet vanilla fragrance is wonderful & not overpowering, bringing back the sweet scents of Spring. After the flowers fade, silvery, plume-like seed heads decorate the vine. “Sweet Autumn Clematis” blooms on current season’s wood. It’s easily & best pruned in late Spring by cutting last year’s stems 6-12” above the ground. Don’t be alarmed by this drastic pruning - it’s so vigorous that by midseason it will be covering the fence or trellis again. Plant in a sunny, well drained location where its roots can be shaded & cool (a thick layer of mulch works fine).

Katie

My daughter Katie has a tree in her yard....it's covered in pretty pink flowers!
She's trying to figure out what kind of tree it is. Anyone know?  I was thinking that it might be a Crab Apple tree, but I don't know for sure.

Speaking of  Katie.  I think I have convinced her to be a "guest blogger" on my blog.  She used to write her own blog, but stopped last October.  She has a "Tangled" birthday party for a curly headed almost five year old coming up, plus lots of decorating going on, and a new baby on the way.  That equals lots of stuff to blog about.  I sure am hoping she'll share that stuff here!

Fairy Garden

I saw this pretty little garden at a shop I went to yesterday.
So sweet...so inspiring!  I think I must try one of these.

Just indeed.....I love the little arbor and the little picket fence.

A fairy will definitely live in my garden.

Not too far from the fairy garden was a bit more outdoor inspiration.
(see the fairy garden in the background on the right)

Rubber boots, garden gloves, and tools belong in hanging flower baskets....don't ya think? Daffodils, lettuce and parsley too!

This was just the inspiration I needed to see yesterday....the first day of Spring.
