Roses in Bloom

Yesterday was my day off....I was so glad to have a chance to take photos of our roses.  We have several varieties and all of them were in full bloom. It was wonderful to have lots of time to look at them!  Roses on the same bush can look so different from one another.  I took so many photos so I wouldn't miss anything...but I'll only share a couple of each.

This rose is call Joseph's Coat.  You never know if the roses on this bush will be yellow, orange, or deep pink....or perhaps a combination of all three colors!

These (above and below) are Knock-Out roses.  The flowers are pretty this year, but the leaves are really having a hard time.  We have three bushes and some little pests have attacked all of them.

I think I'll share more than a couple photos of these pink roses...How about five of them!  They are my very favorite, and the bush is just loaded with buds this year. I'm hoping for quite a show!  I never know what to expect from this rose called New Dawn ~ Awakening.
Click HERE to see how this rose has looked other years.

I don't know the name of these two roses.  We just call them the "orangey" one (above) and the "yellow" one (below).  The "orangey" one opens very fast.  Seem like it's a bud one minute and open wide the next.  The "yellow" one opens slowly....but what a beauty when it's finally done.
I love the second photo of it!

My Clematis is in bloom too ~ I'll share photos of it tomorrow!
What a treat it was to spend some time in the yard with all this color around me!!

I'm linking up to Elizabeth & Co. June Garden Party.
So many ideas....so little time!

Roses

It's been a good Spring for Roses this year.
Here's a peek at two of my favorites.

Joseph's Coat

Awakening (New Dawn)

We bought the Joseph's Coat because of the name.
Years ago, Joe wore a "coat of many colors" to a Harvest Party at church.
It was one of my favorite costumes for him.
The Awakening rose was purchased because I fell in love with the
variety of blooms on it.
Many of the roses look like the one in the photo,
but some have a lot less petals than this one does.

"...the flower fadeth..."

I have a little sign in the garden by my favorite rose bush - it says B L O O M and you can see it here.  Well, it worked and my rose bush bloomed like crazy!   There were dozens of buds on it and as you can see below it bloomed into some pretty pink roses.

The rose is a member of the "New Dawn" family of roses.  I believed it's called "Awakening".  It's been blooming along my fence for many years.  Some years it does better than others....this year was a good year for my Awakening Rose.  Look at that pretty bud just beginning to open and look at the next one showing a bit of the pretty pink inside. Then one more showing the promise of all those petals tucked away. I was excited about actually having enough roses for cutting this year. I wanted to put a small bunch on my desk at work.

Then this started happening....brown edges on my roses.  First on just some of the roses but soon....every single one.  Then not just the edges, but the entire petal. Actually the whole rose.
I was so sad and I couldn't figure out exactly what went wrong.  All my rose bushes were fertilized and treated for insects and disease.  I'm definitely not quilty of over-watering, in fact sometimes quite the opposite!  We did have a very rainy Spring. But really I'm not sure what happened.  As I said I was sad but then I started looking closely at the roses and I decided that they look quite beautiful just as they are!

The roses that still have some pink coloring are soft and smooth. The others are dry and papery, a few of them are losing their petals but most are intact and ready to be cut and used in a beautiful dried arrangement.   This rose bush usually blooms several times through the summer .  I wonder what the next bunch of roses will be like!  Any ideas about why the roses all dried out and turned brown?
