Random Monday Memories

I was doing some laundry last night ~ seems like I never get caught up with it. I get so tired of the never ending loads of laundry. But then I got to thinking about my mother. She had a wringer washer when I was a child. It was a lot of work. Loading the machine ~ running everything through the wringer ~ hanging up a lot of things and putting the rest into the dryer ~ folding clothes and putting things away. Took a whole lot more time to do the laundry back then ~ but I never heard my Mom complain.

Although I must say I don't remember seeing her gaze lovingly into the wringer washer ~ not even once!

Then in addition to the washing and drying, etc. there was a whole lot of ironing going on too! I remember seeing one of these ~ and an empty soda bottle too! Who remembers this nifty little invention?

Hmmmmm ~ the good old days!?

I remember helping my Mother put the wet clothes through the wringer with a stick so we wouldn't smash our fingers. Thanks for sharing your memories!

Smiles,
Carol

Hi Marie,
oh yes I guess we are lucky ,with all our machines to do the hard work for us. Would`nt have been time for creating, back then, -only to mend clothes in the evening...
But never the less ,I too, don`t smile to my washingmachine, maybe we should try a little smile now,and then, to remember how lucky we are, compared with our mothers.
Thanks for the reminder dear Marie,
Hugs, Dorthe

I had a wringer machine when my kiddos were small...and a set of those tubs to go with it....one thing I liked about it was you could let the clothes wash for as long as you like before rinsing them...I did a lot of washing by hand as well and I think I did look very lovingly at that dear Ole wringer when it came home with me....have a blessed week Marie...

I remember sprinkler bottles for ironing! My mother would roll up the dampened clothes and put them in the refrigerator if she didn't finish ironing all them. They'd still be damp the next day. Heck, I only iron things when I need them. They come out of the dryer, I fold them and they go on my shelves in the closet. Then they get ironed the day I need them. Standing for hours ironing? No thank you! Not unless we're going away and I need to have them ready for packing.
I enjoyed using the wringer washer and pegging out wet clothes. But remember the scrambles when it started to rain! Quickly unpeg everything, throw it in the clothes basket in a heap and run! LOL! Then fold inside the house.
Everything took longer back then! Gee, they didn't even have crockpots! Now THAT is the best invention yet...I do NOT like standing over the stove with several pots going at once.
LOL!
Thanks for the memories!

Oh my gosh, we had one of those wringer washers when I was a kid. I hadn't thought of that thing in years. After my parents were divorced my dad hung on to it for quite some time before he finally gave in and bought a new fangled type machine...lol

I was pretty young when the wringer washer went...but I do remember sprinkling bottles. Ours was even a painted soda bottle with a decal on it. If you didn't get all of the ironing finished...into the plastic bag and then into the frig it went!
This post is funnier than you know!
