Happy Fall

Did you know that today is the First (full) Day of Fall?  Technically Fall began yesterday,
but I did a search on line and found this:

Tuesday, September 23rd: If you did a search online, you may have actually come up with this date based on universal time which is based in Greenwich, England. The Equinox will occur when it is 2:29 AM on Tuesday there. But this would be the first FULL DAY of Autumn here in the US.

So...Happy Fall Y'All!

I picked up a few new squirrels at the thrift store last week....just in time for Fall fun! The little brown squirrel in the back is so happy to have some new friends.

Each of these three squirrels is missing it's other half from a salt and pepper set.
I just love leftovers!!

Come Little Leaves

"Come, little leaves,"
Said the wind one day,
"Come over the meadows
With me, and play;
Put on your dresses
Of red and gold;
Summer is gone,
And the days grow cold."

Soon as the leaves
Heard the wind's loud call,
Down they came fluttering,
One and all;
Over the meadows
They danced and flew,
Singing the soft
Little songs they knew.

Dancing and flying
The little leaves went;
Winter had called them
And they were content-
Soon fast asleep
In their earthy beds,
The snow laid a soft mantle
Over their heads.

Leaves & Landscaping

Charlotte and I spent some time outside on Saturday.  We cleaned out the flower beds in the front yard and raked up some leaves.  Obviously she didn't think we had enough leaves on the ground to deal with ~ she tried to rake the leaves still in the tree.  Not that I blame her. The bright red leaves are beautiful.

We also spent a lot of time in the backyard.  My backyard is in need of a lot of landscaping and tender loving care!  In the spring we're hoping to put in some sod but for now we have a large area of dirt.  Charlotte thought we needed to do a little landscaping while we were out there.  She collected branches, twigs, leaves, stones and acorn caps.  Then she got her little shovel and tried to dig some holes (Gramma helped with them).  We planted the branches and then Charlotte insisted on planting a single leaf as well.  She and I piled the stones around the branches and then she lined the acorn caps up.....

I wish I knew what was going on in that curly topped little head.

My Desk

Here's a little peek at some of my autumn decorations at work.
This cute little guy is my favorite squirrel.
Bill bought it for me at CVS a couple years ago.

Five little squirrels sitting in a tree
The first one said "It's getting cold for me!"
The second one said "The leaves are falling to the ground."
The third one said "There are nuts to be found."
The fourth one said "We'd better not wait."
The fifth one said "Fall is really great!"

An Apple A Day

We bought some yummy apples when we went to Weber's Farm.  We bought some Cortland, Red Delicious and my favorite.....Honey Crisp!!  It's the best apple I've ever bitten into....yum!

Yep, Honey Crisp is my favorite snacking apple.....but when it comes to baking (although honestly I don't bake often) I like Granny Smith Apples. One of my favorite autumn recipes is Brian's Apple Brownies.   Mmmm...Mmmm, Brian has good taste!!

What's your favorite autumn dessert?

autumn by the riverside

How I will spend my first Autumn weekend.

In my mind.
I'll be sitting near the overhang of the little shed. The air around me is crisp and clean and the colors are a visual treat. The water is perfectly still. It reflects the twin of the beauty all around me and it reflects me relaxing in the midst of it all!
In my reality.
It's way warmer than I'd like it to be and I have a lot of work to do around the house. No relaxing this weekend, I'll be cleaning!
But it's nice to dream.
How about you? What are you doing this weekend?

Whatever you're doing ~ make it a great weekend!!
