Lilac Breasted Roller

First of all ~ these are not my photographs. I'm sure that's pretty obvious!
I've included source links below each photo.

This is a Lilac Breasted Roller and I first spotted these birds on Pinterest about a month ago.  I've been reading about them ever since.

"This colorful bird ranges throughout eastern and southern Africa. It is named for its courtship flight, which involves flying up high then plummeting, while screaming and “rolling”—rocking its body and wings from side to side."

Can I just say I am in love with these birds! I think they are so amazingly beautiful!
I would love to see and photograph these birds someday ~ I'd like to so much that I've added it to my Bucket List!   Because Africa is pretty far away, I was thinking that this might be a difficult dream to fulfill. But after a bit more internet sleuthing I discovered that there might some of these beautiful birds on African Savannah at the National Zoo in DC!  How cool is that!!

I think there may need to be a field trip soon ~ hopefully I can convince someone else in my family that this sweet things are a must see!

Looks like God had his watercolors out the day he created this amazing little bird!

I just posted about a little bird that is just the opposite in appearance of this beauty.

Such a pretty little bird. We are always up for a trip to the DC zoo... and, heck, DC in general. Just let us know when.
