Note To Self
I ended my day, yesterday, contemplating when I would begin to put away all the
Christmas decorations. I didn't get far, picking up my camera instead for a few
more memories of Christmas 2014.
These two photos prompted a "conversation" in my mind.
"Choose for yourselves this day who you will serve...
but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15
~~~~~::~~~~~
With this new year, I find myself pondering the truthfulness of this in my own life. The reminder is hanging in my living room...but I wonder if it even registers with me lately. How seriously do I take those words when they do register? How's my commitment to Him? What choice have I made?
Perhaps I need to make a 'fresh decision' to serve Him.
Note To Self
I heard a good message at church yesterday...it was one of those "oh, you knew
I'd be here today" kind of messages. Conviction after conviction. Even some tears.
One of the statements that really convicted me also reminded me of my
"un-word" that I chose earlier this year.
"It's easy to spend time on stuff that
amounts to nothing."
It's so easy to do that...and there I go. Wasting precious time again.
Another quote from yesterday's message...
"You are a production in the hands of God."
I want there to be evidence of progress in that production. There are things that need to be developed in my character and in my activities. There isn't time to work on developing those things if I'm otherwise occupied by spending time on stuff that doesn't really matter.
And one more...
"You are a participant in the work of God."
I need to cooperate with Him. I need to be available. I need to use my time more purposefully. I need to use my time on things that count....things that amount to something.
Note to Self:
Substance over stuff.
Note To Self
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such
as is good for building up, as fits the occasion,
that it may give grace to those who hear.
Ephesians 4:29
It's been a good week of thinking before I speak....I have no complaints.
I think I'll work on making this a habit.
It's good to be challenged once in a while.
Thank you all for being so encouraging ~ your comments truly blessed my heart!
It Is Well With My Soul
This hymn was written after several traumatic events in Horatio Spafford’s life.
The first was the death of his only son in 1871 at the age of four, shortly followed by the great Chicago Fire of October 1871, which ruined him financially (he had been a wealthy businessman). Shortly after, while crossing the Atlantic, all four of Spafford’s daughters died in a collision with another ship. Spafford’s wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, “Saved alone.” Several weeks later, as Spafford’s own ship passed near the spot where his daughters died, the Holy Spirit inspired these words. They speak to the eternal hope that all believers have, no matter what pain and grief befall them on earth.
Whatever life throws me....
It Is Well With My Soul
It Is Well With My Soul
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
Refrain
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.
Refrain
My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
Refrain
For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.
Refrain
But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!
Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!
Refrain
And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.
Refrain
We sang this song in church yesterday. We sang it at the end of the service. Long about the third refrain I kind of lost it. I got this huge knot in my throat and tears started flowing down my cheeks. In a powerful way it occured to me just how well it is with my soul!
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." 2 Corinthians 4: 16-18
