Michigan Part One

We took a road trip to Michigan last week.  The main event...a visit to see my mom.  But there were other perks involved as well.  We got to do some out of the ordinary (for us) shopping and eating.  Made a few visits to some thrift shops and I found a few treasures.

The thermos is going to be a vase, the ink jar will hold some pens, and the old rosary will become a necklace.  The coffee mug...well, it's going to remain a very cute coffee mug that cost me a whopping 25 cents!  Total for all four items was only $6.54!!

We also stopped in at The Christmas Tree Shop and Meijer.  We don't have either of these stores near-by (although I did just learn that The Christmas Tree Shop is only 45 minutes away), and it's always fun to stop in.  I managed to find one treasure at each stop.

Back in January (I think) I shared a photo of some vintage Christmas decorations on Instagram.  My cousin contacted me after seeing the picture and said she had some treasures for me...if I wanted them.  Did I ever want them!  She lives in Michigan...so this was my first chance to see these treasures.  Aren't they awesome!!  A Santa, a Snowman, and two soldiers!!  I love them!  They might stay right there in my living room until Christmas!  Thank you Tina!!

Of course, the high point of our trip was seeing my Mom. The frosting on the cake was being able to see all my siblings as well!  Here we are...left to right...Steve, Emily, me, and John...plus the mama sitting up front, looking pleased as punch!

I mentioned that we did some "eating" as well.
Did we ever!  Part Two coming soon!

BootLeg Antiques

On a recent day trip to Pennsylvania I got to visit a new Antique shop.
Thanks Tisha...for waiting to go with Patricia and I...it was the first visit for all three of us.
Such fun to discover new places together!! We could hardly wait to check it out!
Look, there it is across the highway!

And here it is...up high and up close!

Love it when the OPEN flag is flying!!
Love the doors on this place too!

There were green (not for sale) bottles displayed though out the shop.
I meant to ask about the significance of them, but I forgot.
Next time....and yes, there will be a next time!

There was lots to see! I really like the shape of this large jar.
But,no need for a jar full of baseballs at my house.

I thought this was a cute idea...old doorknob and some coiled wire equals a fun
way to display three photos. Or some flashcards.
Like A - B - C or 1 - 2 - 3!

Half of this "wall" and the six feet of floor space in front of it was available for rent.  I would really like to have a space in this kind of shop.  But it's over an hour away in good traffic.
Sure wish I could find something like this closer to home!!

Cute idea for a photo display....cut-out on mounted to a piece of wood.
I could have little stand up photos of my grandkids all over the place!

Old doors are used to define rental spaces. It creates an interesting look...plus
you can hang a basket on the doorknob!

Everyone needs a Giraffe truck.  The color is awesome...I was tempted,
but it was a bit out of my price range.

They had a fairly large collection of old toys scattered through out the two
floors of retail space.  Lots of trucks!!

Some were displayed out of my reach!

Old wood and a window create another great display area.

Lots to look at...way up there!

Love this "wall" of wood...I'd love a section of this running down my hall-way.

Pulley anyone?

Great idea for an old cigar box...attach part of an old belt as a handle.
This is going on my to-do list for sure!

I made a few purchases here.  One was the little aluminum pot with the black handle.
The round base sits on top of a coffee mug. It's similar to a Vietnamese coffee press
but it says made in Italy on the bottom.

Another great old door. I'd love to get one and mount to the fence in my yard.
Perfect spot for seasonal wreaths...don't you think!?

This guy reminds me of Bozo the Clown...except he needs longer hair.
Who remembers Bozo?

Isn't this a fun name for this booth!
Junk & Disorderly!
Love it!!

This afghan came home with me.  The border is a deep navy blue...very unusual.
It looks fabulous on my family room couch!

Another look at the creative displays in this shop.
On the other side of this blue "wall" is where the rental spot is located.

God Bless Our Home...the stitching on this piece was just amazing.
Wish I'd gotten a close up of it.

If you're ever in the Columbia, PA area make sure to stop by at Bootleg Antiques.
It's a great shop!

I mean where else can you find a

The Scarlet Willow

It's always fun to find a new shop...especially one as great as this one!
Welcome to The Scarlet Willow in downtown Lancaster, PA!

Pretty amazing map...and I love the poppy stitchery to the left of it!

Tisha bought the little gray cupboard with the red drawer.

A photo of some pretty Pyrex...just for Mandy!

I love how the little blocks were used in displays throughout the shop....see if you can spot them in some of my photos.

A look toward the front of the shop....it's long and narrow, and full of marvelous stuff!

See the blocks? So cute!

And now we're upstairs! Such a great space!!
I love the walls and great light in this big, airy room!

An old crib spring hanging from the ceiling...and why not!!?

Wish I needed some chairs...I think these red ones are wonderful!

Time to check out....

....but not before we visited the cutest little bathroom ever!!

Look at the "day of the week" towels....each one had a squirrel on it.  Sadly, they were not for sale!
