Snapshot - A Day Off

It's not often that I get a day off from work with no appointments scheduled, no errands to run, no "have to get this done today" kind of list.  Yesterday was that kind of day.  (insert big smile here!)

I cleaned a little, hemmed curtains, enjoyed a quick visit from Jacqi & Penelope, watched some daytime TV (HGTV & news) while enjoying tea, strawberries & cheese, and just simply enjoyed the day.

I also spent some time just walking around the yard with my camera (trying to ignore all the work that needs to be done). The weather was perfect...sunny and a little breezy.  Just right for crawling around taking photos of little acorns on the ground.  It's like they posed themselves...just waiting for me to have a bit of time to come and discover them...click, click!

While "crawling" around I looked up and saw this....Click!
"A picture is worth a thousand words".
Indeed.......

Snapshot

Bonnie and Sandy...two women who I love very much!  Sandy (on the right) is my pastor's wife and our church secretary and Bonnie works in Counseling & Ministry Development.  Bonnie and her husband are moving to South Carolina.  She has been a friend and spiritual mentor to me for over twenty years....and I am going to miss her so much!   But Bonnie and I both know that even if we never meet face to face again, we can look forward to spending eternity with the Lord and each other.  What a precious gift she's been to me!

"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." Galations 2:20
 (Bonnie's favorite verse)

Snapshot

A tiny little watercolor from a friend.
It's about 1 1/2 x 2 inches "big" without the ceramic frame.
A very "Pretty Poppy".

Thank you Tisha.  I love it!

Remember this post?  Well, Saturday I bought myself some Black Eyed Susans.  They're going to get planted tomorrow - 'cause it's my day off.  I got a great price on two big pots of them at a flea market last Saturday.  I can't wait to get them in the ground!  Here's a snapshot of one bloom that snapped off the plant during the ride home.  It's such a happy flower!!

Anyone else a fan of the movie "The Quiet Man"?
It's one of my very favorite movies.
I think this quote from the movie is appropriate for this post!

Will Danaher: Mind you, I'm fresh as a daisy!
Sean Thornton: You look more like a black-eyed Susan to me.

Snapshots

I took this photo in downtown Annapolis, MD...it was in front of a tiny, very upscale antique shop.  Not quite my taste......but I loved the garden!  Especially the OPEN sign, the rusty bowl and the Black Eyed Susans!

Black-Eyed Susans are perennial daisies or coneflowers, members of the sunflower family (Asteraceae). The flower heads measure 2 to 3 inches in diameter with yellow rays circling a dark-brown, spherical center. Commonly found in fields and on roadsides, they bloom between May and August, reaching 2 to 3 feet in height. They are native to the United States, east of the Rocky Mountains.

The Black-Eyed Susan has been the official Maryland flower since 1918 when it was designated the "Floral Emblem" of Maryland by the General Assembly.  I've lived in Maryland for just about 22 years and I have yet to try and grow these.  A neighbor of mine has BUNCHES of them....she's always been generous with sharing from her garden. I'm hoping she'll share some of her Black Eyed Susans with me.  Maybe next year I'll be able to take pictures of my on plants!

Snapshot

Look what Katie found in her backyard.  Charlotte will be able to see baby birds this year....from a distance of course!

Katie took this photo with her phone and shared it on Instagram ....so I borrowed it.  Thanks Katie!

Enjoy your weekend friends!!

Picmonkey

I visited Picmonkey this weekend. There are a lot of fun photo editing options.  I really like the photo corners that I used on this shot of a "light bulb" vase made by my friend Patricia.  I don't think I'll be missing Picnik too much.  Picmonkey will meet my needs very nicely!
