Putting It Together

A couple weeks ago I shared some crafty things I'd been working on.  I mentioned that in addition to doing some painting, I had also been doing some "gluing".  

I used some Gorilla glue...it seems to be holding tight! 

I gathered stuff from stash on hand (I'm determined to make a dent in the stash this year!) for these extra quick and easy projects.  Two old brass candlesticks plus two coaster sized dishes equals a couple really pretty cupcake holders!  I love that the dishes each had a touch of "golden"...makes them tie in with the brass bases.  Besides holding a cupcake, these would also be cute as candle or ring holders too!

For this piece I had to glue together THREE pieces. Quite a leap from the last project, don't ya think!?  One old bobbin glued to an old square cake pan, and then topped off with a porcelain knob makes a cute little catch-all!  I love looking at all the stuff I've gathered over the years. You never know what "something" plus "something" will become!

Back to a very simple "let's glue two things together" project.  This time it's a bit more seasonal.  I glued together an old silver cup and a not so old silver tray. The tray says "Season's Greetings"...but a doily will hide that sentiment.  A little birthday cake would fit just right on this pretty tray!! Or maybe just a bit of greens and a few vintage ornaments.

Painted Black

I'm trying to change how I prepare for the annual Christmas Arts & Crafts Show that I participate in. Rushing around like a crazy person, getting little sleep, and being frustrated at my lack of production needs to be a thing of the past!  To that end, I spent Saturday and Sunday evenings trying to make a dent in my "things to make" list.  I recently shared some "supplies" in this blog post. I spent some time painting a few of them...plus some other pieces I didn't share.

I used Martha Stewart's Satin craft paint for the first time.  I LOVE it! 

It goes on so smooth and the coverage is awesome!!

Only problem now is talking myself out of keeping some of the pieces!! 

I'm especially fond of the "cracker tray"...it looked just like THIS ONE when I started.

I also painted this larger, handled tray.  A perfect display for your pearls!

What!? You don't have any pearls!  Well, honestly, if I was planning on keeping this piece I would fill it with eggs right now, then some little pots of flowers, maybe apples in Autumn, and definitely some vintage ornaments when Christmas came around.  I'd have to pick a nice wintry display too...but I really don't want to think about Winter right now!

Not only did I do some painting....I did some gluing too!!

I find some great supplies during the after Christmas sales.

These musical birds were bought after Christmas 2012....and they were bought

with crafting in mind.

I picked these birds up at Target,when they were 90% off. 

They cost a whopping 20 cents each! The shredded paper is from a food gift basket we received....so it was free.  I found a bag full of these tart tins at the thrift store.

There were sixteen in the bag and it cost $1.21....that's less than 8 cents a tin.

So, each of these little birds sitting on a nest cost less than 30 cents. 

Now that's something to "tweet" about!!

Little Green Box

I found this green box at the thrift store this week.  

It's little...that's what I like most about it!

I thought about putting some kind of label on top of it.

Then I remembered this knob.  

I do believe it is the perfect touch!

I used a nail to punch a hole in the lid, and then I screwed on the knob. I LOVE IT!!

It's the perfect place to store old watch parts.

Tomorrow my daughters and I are headed to "The Barn Show" and a community 

yard sale at a local middle school.  

Oh I love this time of year!!

The Gallery Wall

A bit more progress has been made in my bathroom...it's almost done!  (read other posts about it HERE, HERE, and HERE.  I decided to make floral paintings the focus in this room...particularly the four paintings (three shown here and one in this post) that I found at thrift stores during the past few years. Actually, everything hanging in this room was discovered at one thrift store or another.

Including this escutcheon plate that I used as part of my towel holder.  It, along with a scrap of wood and a peg, easily transformed into a great place to hang a hand towel



 

One of the last things that has to be done involves the wall cabinet.  I really don't like the shutter look.  We're going to cut a piece of paneling to fit over the slats. It'll be painted with black chalkboard paint....I think the first message on it will be "Rise & Shine"!

A floral print, an old round mirror, and a Syroco golden roses wall hanging complete the gallery.  I really love the diamond shaped Syroco piece, and I'm pleased that I finally found the perfect spot for it.  The mirror is one of my favorite finds....and it only cost $1.98!!

That's the other area that needs a bit more work.  Soon.....

Made By Me

 

Still no creating going on around here. But I did spend some time, not too long ago, putting some photo collages together that show things I've created in the past.  These photos were submitted to a small, local, arts & crafts show.  I've attended the show (twice a year) for at least a dozen years, and I thought I'd try to get some of my creations into the show. 

You've probably seen most of these before......

I'm also sharing these because I really don't have time to put anything new together right now. Life has been full to overflowing, and this blog needs to go on a back-burner for a bit. 

I'll share what I can, when I can...including some fun photos from Caleb's 2nd birthday party last Saturday...just not sure how regularly I'll be posting.

Snapshots - Bringing Home The Tree

I've seen several red trucks hauling Christmas trees, as I've browsed through blogs and Pinterest. So I went on a search for some little red vehicles to haul some of my tiny trees.  Lucky me...I found three!! 

The trees still need to be "tied down"....I'm thinkin' that Baker's twine will be perfect for that.

Aren't they so cute!!!  The pick-up truck is my favorite. 

Maybe I'll print up some notecards using that one.

A Flock

I found some more Pinspiration this past weekend!  I love the little twig legs and the black face on the sheep to the left, and wooly coat and little top knot drew me to the sheep on the right.  Plus it's body reminded me of something I had just bought at the thrift store....these wooden drapery rings!

 

So I started creating my own version of my inspiration sheep.  I was pretty happy with how they were turning out, except for one thing.  Those "empty bellies" bothered me! 

 

 

So I made a page of "sheep, lambs and baas".  I printed it, cut out circles, and glued them to the back of the sheep.  Perfect touch!  If I do say so myself!!  You can see the "sheep, lambs and baas" in the following photos.  I love my flock of sheep...the drapery rings have little "eyelets" on them, so they'll make great ornaments. So the creating continues.......
